Instance mapping is where you map source instances (defined by your instance consolidation solution) to your target servers (defined by your project). SQL Governor will then produce a target architecture automatically by generating an optimal configuration of target servers based on your mapping.
- Select Plan > Instance mapping from the navigation menu.
- Select a solution from the drop-down under Source instances.
- Select a project from the first drop-down under Target servers and select a scenario count from the second drop-down. The higher the number of scenarios, the more combinations SQL Governor will try. A higher scenario count means more potential cost savings but takes more time to calculate.
- By default, growth factors for the CPU and RAM usage of the instances is calculated automatically. To override them, right-click on any node in the solution tree and select a manual growth factor value. Manual values mean a yearly percentage increase.
- Drag servers or instances from the solution tree onto the project tree.
- Click on Process to start the calculation. The progress bar shows approximately how much time is left.
- When the results are ready, a summary will be shown under "Results".
- To see the target architecture in more detail, click on the View as diagram link. The diagram opens up in a new tab and shows the instances you mapped, organized under virtual, physical or cloud servers.
To start a new mapping, click on the Clear button.
