Virtual target servers are derived from physical target servers. To use virtual servers in your capacity planning projects, first create a physical target server and then do the following steps:
- Go to Settings: Metadata and select Virtual target servers from the dropdown menu.
- Click Add new.
- Select the Physical target server from which the virtual server is derived.
- Give the virtual server setup a name.
- Enter the amount of RAM (GB) and the Cores.
- If the virtual server is using hyperthreading, check the Hyperthreaded checkbox.
- If you want to save some RAM and/or cores to the operating system, fill the OS RAM (GB) and OS cores fields. These values are deducted from the RAM (GB) and Cores values during planning calculations.
- Click the OK icon.
Note that checking the Hyperthreaded checkbox means that the number of cores used for planning calculations is the Cores value divided by the number of threads per core, as defined by the CPU model of the server. For example, a virtual server using hyperthreading, a CPU model with 2 threads per core and having 8 logical cores means the same thing as 4 physical cores.
